Summer job, cabin fever on Muppet Treasure Island, progress at work
My oldest daughter has wanted to meet the people at the horse farm at the end of our road. She was working on a letter to them to introduce herself and volunteer to help out at their farm if they would only train her to take care of horses. Today my husband crashed his new motorcycle, and he wanted to call me to come pick him up, and the closest house was the horse farm. So not only did the people at the horse farm give Darin and his motorcycle a ride home, but we got to meet them, and my oldest, starting next week, will have the summer job of her dreams, and all within biking distance (which is my dream). The lady that owns the farm also has a daughter the same age as my oldest. Though my husband isn't really feeling it, the rest of us see the hand of God moving here!
Watching Muppet Treasure Island, and remembering how when the girls were little they would repeat whole sections of the movie to each other. "I've got it tooooooooo."
Good progress today on the new pages for the courses on my web site.
Caffeine and girl-talk, driving weather, more girl-talk
Sitting in McDonald's with free refills on a diet Dr. Pepper/Coke mix, talking to the girls and reading, instead of sitting in the waiting room at the car dealership for two hours. It was actually a pleasure to have to take the car in to be fixed.
Amazing progress on a pet project of mine, on the phone, fresh cherries
Though I have many jobs, because it's summer, I don't have to worry so much about teaching the girls or teaching at Belmont, so I've been focusing on the consulting part of my life. One of the things that I would really like to do more of is teach time series short courses, and my goal is to get the courses on the web. But my courses are copyrighted, so I can't just put them up for anyone to see. Today I made a huge breakthrough!!! I am learning PHP, and I'm finding some wonderful free code, and I'm finally beginning to think that I can really get this done this summer. My goal is to have the slides on the web, with notes and sound files of me talking, and have it all password protected.
Today I spent a lot of time on the phone for the first time in a long time. It's so good to talk to Kathy, and my mom and I got things settled for a vacation this summer and a trip for my middlest to "knitting camp" with Grandma. I also had a very nice conversation with a new client.
My middlest daughter likes to write new lyrics to current hits. (My husband calls her the Weird Al Yankovic of country music.) Her newest song is "Every day," with the line "You say I lie" instead of "You save my life." She used her little sister for inspiration, and it's completely brilliant. It makes me laugh just to think about it.
My husband got his motorbike running this morning, and the girls were almost as excited as he was.
Board games for the girls downstairs, so lots of time for me to cross-stitch, scrapbook, and play computer games while I listen to them laugh.
My youngest not only saw a baby deer today, but it came up to her and sniffed her knees.
Our first Monday in a long time where I wasn't nagging someone about school. None of the girls told me they were bored, argued with a sister, or had to be put on "touching probation." A really relaxing Monday.
We had our first embroidery lesson of the summer, and it went very well. Everyone had a good time (including me), and they are all willing to keep practicing.
My oldest got to help her dad put together his new motorbike. She was so happy to do something with her dad on Fathers' Day weekend. It just made me smile to watch her with him.
Scrapbook day at Rita's house. I finished six sides of pages in my Luxembourg book, and my youngest finished four sides in her Star crowning book.
We kidnapped my husband and took him to see the new Indiana Jones movie, and then out for pizza. When we discuss going out and doing something, he always complains about how much money it's going to cost. When we kidnapped him, he didn't say a thing about the cost, and actually enjoyed himself. We will have to kidnap him again.
Last set of school work, cooler temperatures, cumulonimbus clouds at sunset
Today we mailed the last of the school work for the 2007-2008 school year. Though I was worried a couple of weeks back that we couldn't make the mailing deadline (postmarked by June 16 in order to be graded before October), my oldest came through in flying colors.
A little bit of rain, but more importantly, cooler temperatures.
Beautiful cumulonimbus clouds at sunset. The lower clouds were dark, but in the gaps, we could see that the clouds up high were bright, shining pinks and oranges. Breath-taking!
I've had a bit of a hiatus from all my blogs. It isn't that three beautiful things haven't been happening in my life---it's just that I went for a spell where I couldn't get to a computer, and then I wasn't in the habit of blogging, and I had to finish up things for the girls for school. But after a month away, I'm ready to start recording my three beautiful things again!
This blog was inspired by the blog Three Beautiful Things
that I found listed as a "Blog of Note". I first read her blog on 10 October, and I was inspired to write my own
list of things that made me smile throughout my day.
