Turkeys again, last day, work from my baby

  1. My husband mowed the yard this week, and now the turkeys are back in force. They like the shorter grass better than the still-hadn't-been-mowed-this-spring grass.

  2. I finished my last day of new teaching at Belmont for the semester.

  3. My baby girl came with me today to get some time alone with mom. She got tons of her work done while I was teaching.

Multi-tasking, logarithms, reading

  1. This morning I managed to send email to clients and students, teach math to my kids, help my husband with his resume, and cook lunch --- all at the same time. It's nice to know that my multi-tasking skills are still intact.

  2. My oldest and I worked on logarithms today for her math class. I was feeling very emotional, thinking about my dad. She was, too. At one point, she leaned over and put her head on my shoulder and said, "You smell like Grandpa." And it was true. I was wearing one of his old Nebraska t-shirts that my mom had given me, and it still smelled like his cologne.

  3. My mom spent most of the day reading, and she told me that she was enjoying the quiet time. But in the afternoon my youngest came to me and said that Grandma must be really bored because she was doing nothing except reading. I told her that she should ask Grandma if she'd like to go for a walk down to the creek. My baby said, "I can't go. I haven't finished my reading for today." (I told her to go anyway, for Grandma's sake.)

New joke, offertory, choir practice

  1. A new knock-knock joke. Pastor Tommy told this joke very badly (bad sense of timing) this morning at church, but I love this joke, and I can tell it very well because it's right up my alley.

    A: Knock, Knock.
    B: Who's there?
A: Control freak. Now you say, "Control freak who?"

  2. The organ offertory, but I can't remember the name

  3. A chance to sing with the choir again

Saturday, April 19, 2008

Scrapbook and shopping day

  1. A scrapbook day at Rita's with my mom and my middlest daughter. My daughter didn't want to scrapbook, so she knitted, and then I got her to help me with my book some, including some proofreading.

  2. Finishing the scrapbook about my dad.

  3. Shopping with my mom and my daughter. Those two are great shopping buddies.

Bad estimates, Kroger-brand S'Mores-flavored pop tarts, turkey feathers

  1. We seemed to run out of everything this week, all at once, including running out of both plastic wrap and aluminum foil when I hadn't bought either one of those in years and years and years. And yet, even with my grocery cart filled to overflowing, and cans of vegetables down below, I still spent only $150. I thought it would be over $200, but fortunately, I had estimated incorrectly.

  2. Kroger-brand, S'Mores-flavored pop tarts on sale this week.

  3. Big turkeys showing off their feathers in our yard.

  1. Our trees and bushes survived the heavy frost last night.

  2. It's tax day and I already have my refund back.

Fun language lessons

  1. I got so tickled during my French lesson today that I had to turn off the CD and take a break. The lady asks, "Where is city hall?" And the man answers, "City Hall Square."

  2. Then I hit another French phrase that made me giggle so much I had to stop for the day---"Je peux m'asseoir" (I can sit)

  3. I spent our Spanish lesson whispering to my daughter, and I gave her the giggles this evening, too

Wednesday, April 09, 2008

Another driver in the family, kisses, cheap lunch at Subway

  1. I spent most of the day in the car, taking the girls to the orthodontist and then running errands in town, but my oldest drove most of the time, so it was a much more relaxing day than it would have been otherwise.

  2. I saw a very pregnant woman today with a t-shirt that read, "It all started with a kiss."

  3. Special deals at Subway

Tuesday, April 08, 2008

Lilacs, still cut flowers, scrapbook time

  1. The lilacs are starting to come out, and there is a nice big bush that I walk past to go to my office at Belmont.

  2. Many of the cut flowers in the house still look and smell good, even ten days after we first got them. It's so nice to have cut flowers around until our flower bushes here start blooming.

  3. After I finished some work this evening, I had the time to start a new scrapbook about our days in Luxembourg.

Fathers and sons, quiet, mostly sunny and 75

  1. My Sunday school teacher told us an amusing story about his son trying to take him down. My teacher probably weighs 300 pounds, and his high-school-aged son probably weighs less than 120 pounds, even soaking wet.

  2. My husband had errands to run in town this afternoon, so he took the kids to their various choir practices and youth groups, and I had a quiet Sunday afternoon to myself.

  3. It is a beautiful day --- mostly sunny, and 15 degrees warmer than yesterday, about 75 degrees today.
